Individualism and Culture

Thinking about the culture we live in and how to engage with it

Individualism and Culture is the start of a conversation about understanding the culture we live in - a culture where we are told we can define ourselves. We hear so many conflicting messages about who we are. We’re told we can form our own identities - based on achievements, or wealth, sexuality, gender, morality, popularity… and so on.

This course aims to examine how we’ve got to this point and help us identify why we think like we do. We’ll see how expressive individualism plays out in our lives. And of course, we’ll consider what God’s word says about how our identity is formed. Our prayer is that we’ll grow in understanding and compassion, as we work this out in our households, church family, communities and workplaces.

Over 5 sessions on Thursday evenings (8.00pm - 9.30pm), the course will include seminar-style presentation, as well as small group discussions, testimonies, book reviews and plenty of time for questions.
